Within the UK healthcare industry there is a piece of equipment well known by the patients that require it, but due to its expense the health authority have not been able to provide each hospital with its own. Therefore a mobile MRI scanner tours the UK health sector to facilitate diagnosis of injuries and illness. ide Systems Managing Director realised there was an issue with providing power to the mobile MRI scanner at each medical venue, so he began to develop a cost effective power distribution panel which could be fitted at each medical venue for the visiting mobile MRI scanner.
Firstly the mobile MRI scanners own power supply inlet lead is terminated with a non industry standard plug. Not native to the UK we looked to the European market to find the specific panel mount socket which was required and then had to obtain it at a price to make it affordable to our customers.
Electrically protecting the mobile MRI scanner was second nature. A good quality correctly rated MCCB with exterior isolating handle and Earth Leakage Relay would make sure both scanner and personnel are safe (BS 61008)
Finally, a purpose built enclosure had to be designed which allowed facility for electrical disconnection/isolation, access to electrical components by competent personnel, keeping the electrical protected from the environment, being mounted on a wall/frame or within a pillar, and making it easier to fit and remove the required large mobile MRI scanner power supply lead. With our experienced steel fabricator, an IP rated, powder coated Zintec steel enclosure was manufactured. This meant our skilled engineers could then fit the required components to create the DS2.
The DS2 is now a standard product within the ide Systems range and we have supplied over 200 hospitals throughout the UK with this specialist plug-in system for mobile MRI, CT and PET scanners.
